If I create a recurring event that requires registration, do I still have to manually add all of the registrations instances for each month?  Or, does the system take care of that?

I have created a recurring event for baptisms, but when I go to the next month, the registration says closed.  I have read the manual, and to me, it is not clear as to if it will do what I am asking.
