Preventing Record Merges

Hi, is there anyway to prevent people (Staff Like Users) from performing merges?  We had this happen and want to keep people from doing te merges unless they are authorized.

    Hi Don,

    In the soon-to-be-released v4, a merge will be converted to a merge request if the person does not have Edit permission for the merge block.
    This sounds like what you are looking for?

      I would also like to see that merge button not show up, unless the user had been granted permissions. Is that possible?

        Yes. The Merge button is hidden if the current user does not have View permission for the Person Merge Page.

          OK Sounds like I should create a new security group for our small group leaders, since it seems as if the Staff like group has permissions to some of these things I would like to prevent.
