Security Role for taking attendance for all small groups

I would like to give our church secretary the ability to take attendance for any/all small groups that take attendance. Currently, she has the "Staff" Security Role, but that does not allow her to take attendance. When she clicks the attendance button for a group, she gets the error: "You're not authorized to update the attendance for the selected group". How do I apply permissions to allow this?

Hi Greg. Is this a custom group type you've created? Also, can you confirm that the small groups have "Take Attendance" checked in their group type settings? Finally, what version of Rock are you running?
    Thanks

Hi Jeremy. I created a custom group type "Sunday Morning Life Groups" that inherits from "Small Group Section". Under that group type, I created groups of type "small group" and yes, they are marked to take attendance. I am running the latest version of Rock, version 3.4.

That's odd. I'm running the same settings with no problem from staff users. See if they can take attendance from a pre-existing group like General Groups. You'll need to change that groups type to be able to take attendance.

Jeremy, I tried your idea, but I cannot change the General Groups group to a Small Group type. It is locked in as a General Group Type. I am unable to set it to take attendance. However, I created a test group of type Small Group under General Groups, and I did not fare any better. Staff is still unable to take attendance. Any other ideas? Thanks.

Here's what I needed to do to fix it. Go to Group Viewer and select the group or group type I want to set permissions for. Click the lock icon for the group. Add the security role "Staff Workers" with Administrate permissions.

Sorry, I meant change the group to allow attendance taking.  Not change the group type.  You can do this by going to Admin Tools > General Settings > Group Types > General Group.

I was able to set up the pre-existing General Groups to take attendance for testing purposes, but have the same problem/error. I notice in the error message for my Staff Workers that it says "You're not authorized to update the attendance for the selected group". If the problem is with "the selected group" does that tell me I need to somehow setup a permission for each group or group type somewhere to allow taking attendance? I haven't seen where to do that.
