Can Rock run on MSSQL 2010 instead of 2012?

Hi,

I am wondering if this is possible because I want to save a little money on the Arvixe hosting plan. To try it out on the personal plan before I pay for the Business one. Im not sure if Arvixe offers 2012 on their personal plan but I am planning ahead.

FWIW, I have a successful install running on Arvix PersonalClass ASP.  Seems to be going great so far!

Edit: Sorry, I should have clarified.  Yes, my Arvix PersonalClass is SQL 2012.  Additionally, since it's a shared SQL instance, when I access it from my local machine's Management Studio, I can see every other database (approx 100) on this Arvixe server.  However, I do not have rights to view anything other than the db names.  Long-term I plan up upgrade my Personal account to a Business account, but since it's primarily for testing right now, I'm not as concerned.

There is no such thing as MSSQL 2010 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Microsoft_SQL_Server), but prior to a few months ago, I was running Rock on my laptop using MSSQL 2008 with success. I only upgraded to 2012 in order to test some synchronization scripts I was investigating, so yes it probably works find on MSSQL 2008.
[EDIT 11/29/2015] With Rock McKinley v4 on the horizon, I want to clarify that SQL 2012 will now be a requirement.

    Hi Victor,

It appears Arvixe offers unlimited SQL Server 2012 Databases on their personal plan: http://www.arvixe.com/asp_net_web_hosting

    I hope that helps,

Yes Jim, you explained my situation exactly!

Jeremy : I know that the Business Plan supports 2012, aside from the site the rep said the personal plan supported MSSQL 2010. I was a bit confused and asked the question based on the response the rep gave me because I didn't want to pay for the business plan just yet. Now since you have confirmed that they support MSSQL 2012 ont the personal this question is not really relevant unless I go buy the personal plan and it turns out that they don't support MSSQL 2012 as the rep told me, even though the site says so.

Yeah I saw that. But I chatted with a Rep and he told me that, that was the difference between the business plan and personal. Im going to give it a try. Anywho could it run on 2010 though?

      Hi Victor,
SQL Server 2012 is the minimum requirement, mostly because of its "spacial" enhancement that help with geographic features of RockRMS. I'm not sure I understand why you want to run in on 2010 . . . . ?

I actually don't, but I don't want to pay the business plan. When I first went to the site it showed 2010 not 2012 and then I refreshed and it said 2012 super weird. Thats why I asked the question. Then I asked the rep and he said the difference was 2010 and 2012. So i got the "hmmmm moment..."

Hi Victor - I hope you will pardon me for being dense... :-) ...but since Arvixe Personal includes SQL Server 2012, I'm not sure I understand the issue?

Here's what I understand: Victor saw that the site says 2012 is included in the personal plan, but then talked to a rep who told him the difference between the personal and business plans was SQL 2010 vs. 2012, so he was confused and just wanted to know if 2010 was supported by Rock IN CASE he started down the path of installing on the personal plan and found out that 2010 was, in fact, the version available there :-)
