Recommended Accounting System

Since Rock does not contain a full-functioning accounting system, are there recommended accounting systems to complement Rock? As we look at fully switching over from ACS to Rock, this is one of our biggest hurdles since ACS does have full accounting functionality.

    I don't have a list of alternative accounting systems, but I would suggest that if ACS Financials is meeting your needs, and your accounting people aren't begging for something new, you just stick with it. There's nothing at all preventing you from paying for ONLY the Financials module in ACS while stopping the People, side of things. That's what we did when we moved from ACS as our sole ChMS to our current ChMS, and will likely continue to do so when we finally implement Rock. 

    A lot of people also get hung up on "integration" between Rock (or any other ChMS) and the financials, if they are not from the same company. This should not really be an issue... Rock (in this case) handles the contribution side of things and then batch totals are simply posted to the financials manually... you don't need to deal with individual contributions on the financials side since Rock is handling that. You just need totals posted to your general ledger. It's really not that big a deal unless you have an insane number of accounts/batches.

    Jim is spot on.

    I would add that adding integration that simplifies the workflow between RockRMS contributions and ACS Financials would be an excellent addition to the community.  Some accounting types love having a solid "paper trail" between systems for auditing purposes.  Were you in a position to get that done, it could be added to the upcoming Rock Store for free or for sale.  In either case would tremedously bless churches that use ACS along with Rock.

    We are not on Rock yet, but we did just switch to a new Financial Management System called Intacct. So far we really like it.

    This question has been asked, but wanted to know if anyone has any recommendations or suggestions on Financial Management System. Or if there is any that work well with Rock?

    Hi Melody,

    Great question.

    Note that the Rock Shop https://rockrms.com/rockshop has three plugins available (as of this writing) that can help decide which financial systems might be best for you: Shelby, Intacct, and BlackBaud. Note, these are not your only options for financial systems - there are many - but these three have a bit of a leg up thanks to the plugin-based integration.

    If your current system meets your needs, the view after the change may not be worth the climb. Although the integrations above are very nice, they are not required to have a good experience between Rock and your ERP of choice.
