How can I hide unused system attributes?

Some system attributes connected to background check and social media are going to be unused by my church. Even if I hide these attributes on the person profile page they still appear in areas like the bookmark select.

Is there a safe way to hide or remove these attributes?

    While security works, we'll also add the ability to inactivate attributes in a future release.

    Hmmm... thinking out loud here, but I wonder if you could just modify the security on the attributes you want to hide (General Settings | Person Attributes) so that they're not available to the users (staff?) at all? Looks like attributes get "All Users" by default, so if you took that away and let only admins see them, that might work?
