Communication Preference

When creating a "New Family" is there a way to set the default for "Communication Preference" to SMS instead of EMAIL? I don't see an option to set to the "Communication Preference" to SMS when creating the "New Family"

    It's possible with a workaround.

    Indeed, the block does not offer a "Comm Preference" option, even via a block setting, but you can add a Person Attribute to the page which can be used to trigger a workflow that sets the preference for the Individual(s). 

    You could also set up a Data View that collects all new records (be default, Rock sets the Connection to Prospect... so the DV will select all Prospects) which adds the new records to a Group automatically, which sends a Welcome communication that also asks for their preference. Obviously, this is less slick... and redundant... if the answer to the Comm Preference was already collected from the individual(s) via another means. However, if your church is working through Personalization, the welcome email can send users to select their Subscription preferences via a /subscribe page (look at the Communication List Subscribe block).
