What are the fees associated with online giving? ACH and Debit/Credit Card?

Hi Melissa,

Great question! Of course the answer is "it depends". :-)

Among the giving providers are Payflow's Gateway - which you can match to your own Merchant Services, or use theirs, Pushpay, Transnational's "MyWell", SecureGive, and probably others along the way. Each of them offer varying fee structures and levels of hand-holding.

We currently use a Payflow Pro gateway, and pay about 2% in fees. There is no difference between CC and Debit card with Payflow - all are treated as Visa/MC expenses. ACH is much less. Our experience with Payflow has been excellent for about 8 years now, but they do require a tad more knowhow than some of the other providers, specifically regarding PCI_DSS. PCI_DSS is a subject all it's own, but your church will want to weigh the cost of PCI_DSS compliance and the cost of having your giving provider handle it for you.
