Which Family to put Deceased individuals?

In the Person & Family Field Guide, under "Death of a Family Member"

Step#2 is    Move the deceased individual to a new family.

Question #1.   What is the best/recommended practice?

a) All deceased under one big family

b) Each deceased in his/her own individual family

c) Try to keep deceased family members together

d) Something else

Question #2.  What about the other family details like Address, Campus, etc? for the "deceased family"?

I need to be clear about all this because I will be migrating/importing via Excavator details of deceased members

    I think this mostly comes down to your own preferences and the way YOU (your organization) prefer to handle things. Here we use option b) Each deceased in their own family, linked back to their surviving family via relationships. Option 'a' would be too weird-looking for us, and you would potentially lose information about the deceased (like campus they had attended) because campus is a family-level field.As for 'c', while it's really rare here (I think we only have one instance so far) we do keep deceased family members together.

    As for question #2, we pretty much keep everything as-it-is on a deceased person's record for historical reasons.

    On a related note: be sure that you are taking advantage of the feature of Data Views that lets you set a foundation for reporting, and make sure that your Foundational Data Views include or omit deceased people appropriately.  And, of course, ensure that any organizational reports use the Foundational reports!
