Is it possible to restrict people listed in the Person Picker search tool to those in a group?

I would to restrict the people returned in the Person search tool to only those within a group. Is there a way to do this?

I meant the Person Picker tool, but I guess the question also applies to the search bar at the top of the page.

I'm trying to restrict a user from seeing EVERYONE.

I just want them to be able to search and select from among people that have been allocated to a particular group of people.

    Is this something you could do with a security role? It looks like you can build your own security roles. The question is whether you can get to the detail you need to restrict access to people only in a certain group(s).
