Documentation/Samples for Adding a new Data Filter?

I am looking to create a new Data Filter, and I would like to know if there are any guides to doing this.

I would like to implement this filter (and others) in a separate custom assembly and export it in a way that I can drop it in and Rock will show it in the list of available filters.
I'm currently looking at the existing Data Filter implementations, but is there any other guidance on best practice for implementing custom Data Filters?

    Our developer documentation is still in the process of being written. At this point, other than the source, we don't have any additional resources on writing Data Filters.

    Ok, thanks for the response.

    If there's any way I can contribute to the documentation, please let me know.
    I'll need to go through the process myself (and hopefully figure out some things along the way), so perhaps I could make some notes about this topic to help get things started.
