Elasticsearch

We are getting ready to install Elasticsearch. The documentation recommends 2.x instead of 5.x. They are actually now up to version 6.2.1. Is 2.x still the recommended version?

Yes 2.x is the supported version. They skipped from version 2.x to 5.x and in that updated changed the API drastically.

More specifically, should we install 2.4.6 or 2.3.1 as shown in the Rock Doc? What is the latest version of 2.x that Rock supports?

Thank you. We are still having trouble getting Rock to connect to the server so at least we know it's not the Elasticsearch version that's the problem.

Not sure if you are still trying to get Elasticsearch working, Andrew, but I highly discourage using anything below 6.1.  2.4.6 is the terminal version of ElasticSearch 2.x, and has quite a few bugs fixed, but depending upon if you want Elasticsearch to be stable and/or to scale well, you definitely need to migrate to a newer version.  There are a host of reasons to do so.  Please be aware that compatibility may be an issue depending upon how you are using it.  Given that this thread is a year old, I am sure you have moved on from this, but I just wanted to share this, since I actually provide consulting services in the Public Sector in the field of Data Science and data management.
