Is there a developer able to help us import to Rock?

Hello,

I've posted before asking for guidance on how to import people from our existing solution to Rock. The responses were very helpful but I'm just not experience enough with Microsoft Access (our old database format) or Microsoft SQL server to actually make the import happen.

Also, figuring out how to prepare/edit the Access database fields to match the new fields in the SQL database so that Rock will actually be able to recognize and use our data is difficult for me to understand.

If there a developer here or somewhere else that can assist us with this transition?

Thanks!

There is a nice import tool that was created by some of the devs with the help of NewSpring Church. It is available on github: https://github.com/NewSpring/Excavator/blob/master/Excavator.zip

When you download the file before extracting it you will need to right click then go to Properties and click on the unblock button and then ok. now you can safly extract the files. If you don't do it in this order it will crash.

I used Microsoft Excel to get the data from the Microsoft Access database.  From Excel, then export the cleansed data to CSV format which Excavator will happily use.  These steps I can help you with.

A lot of time and effort was spent in (a) data cleansing the old data (b) Separating the name (all in one field) to First Name, Last Name, etc, (c) Separating the address (all in one field) to the different fields (d) grouping individual persons into families.  This is because our old data did not keep names and addresses as per Rock, and this Name/Address data was formatted in different ways.

A new tool, available as of v14, can help with importing people data. Find it here: https://community.rockrms.com/documentation/bookcontent/9#csvimport

    I hope that helps,
