Check Scanner Sometimes Recording Check Number Incorrectly

Our Accounting department recently noticed that the check scanning app sometimes incorrectly records the Transaction Code.

Here's an example:

The Transaction code read 189 which was pulled from the MICR line instead of reading the check number which would be 9192.

Has anyone else run into this problem and found a solution? For now, they are manually correcting it as they match the checks.

    I haven't heard of that issue...

    Can you give some more details about the scanner that you're using, and if your noticing any consistent similarities on when it happens (certain types of checks?)

    It's also not going to hurt to clean the check scanner according to manufacturer specifications
